Duel of the Barbers 2022 Judges looking forward seeing to precision and confident contestants:
With the competition now only weeks away, Duel of the Barbers 2022 is on the lips of the industry. The qualified and experienced judges are particularly looking forward to the outcome of this year’s Duel. We spoke to two of the three judges about what they will be looking for this year.
Who are the 2022 judges?
Judging this year’s competition will be Jody Bothma, founder of Barbers SA, Suzette Coetzee, Educational Co-ordinator WAHL SA and Warren Theunis, founder of the Barbers Association and partner to Barbercraft New Zealand.
With well over 40+-years’ experience between the three judges, the competition has the cream of the crop marking those score sheets.
We spoke to Jody and Warren about this year’s competition.
Jody is looking forward to a healthy competition.
Jody says he is excited to being out there again. The return of competitions and expo’s brings about a feeling of normality.
“It’s a great opportunity to network and meet new people in the industry, as well as to identify new and up-and-coming talent.” –Jody-
As founder of Barbers SA, Jody’s aim was to: “… meet like-minded barbers in Cape Town and nationally.”
Barbers SA was founded in 2017 and Jody proudly has 22-years of experience in the industry.
Warren will have grace for young barbers
Qualified Barber and Assessor, appointed Subject Matter Expert by the Department of Higher Education has also been in the industry for 22-years. He has done judging training with EOHCB and judged both local and international competitions.
Warren says this will be the 3rd time that he joins the panel of judges to: “…find the best of the best competitor in the 2022 Dual of the barbers over the different categories. “
He admits that he will have a little grace for the young barbers competing, and slightly more forgiving when it comes to the blend and finish. He goes on to say:
“I can be especially critical in the senior categories when it comes to blending and the overall look. I pay special attention to how the finished cut complements the model.” –Warren-
Warren believes that ‘Duel of the Barbers’ is a good platform for barbers to build confidence and make their mark in the barbering landscape in South Africa.
Advice for competitors
Jody and Warren shared a word of advice for the competitors.
“Find the right model suited for the cut. Practice the cut and styling beforehand. Relax and remember to have fun.” –Jody-
“Competitors should carefully plan model choice with the desired outcome.” –Warren-
