            El Theo’s

El Theo’s calls themselves a “Drop in” Centre for street children. Situated in Parow, Cape Town, El Theo’s is more than a crèche for the neighborhood kids. Their doors are open for the street kids of the area as well. Here they are being fed and bathed.

Nandi, El Theo’s Administrator says through several programs they are working with the families and not only the kids. They offer several social development programs, counselling and trauma programs and fundraisers to raise funds.

“We are trying to meet the needs of the members of the family, the kids and the parents.” -Nandi-

Vice President of El Theo’s, Bijou Nkonko says that it is important to sustain the whole family and for that they rely on funding from sponsors and parents that are able to pay for the kids in the crèche. Bijou admits that al lot of the funding does come out of her own pocket.

            New premises

El Theo’s will be moving into a bigger premises on 1 August. The bigger premises will have classrooms, a play area, office space, facilities for the street kids to bath and eat and rooms for social development programs. Currently the rent and renovations are being paid by Bijou.

“I sold my car and used all my savings to cover the first few months. We are hoping to have funding and sponsors soon to help.” -Bijou-

Nkonko goes on to say that the bigger premises will allow them to meet more needs and help even more children and families.

            Coffee & Wood

Owner of Coffee & Wood, Dominque, says she found El Theo’s on social media and after making contact with the social worker she knew this is where she needed to give her support.
